On display at MD&M West, the new device features single-cylinder submersible pneumatic grips, which facilitate specimen loading and alignment and prevent slippage, and a temperature-controlled bath, in which distilled water or saline solution is brought to 37 °C within 30 minutes. A closed-loop control ensures that the temperature remains constant within 1°C.
The unit can be used to test biomedical materials such as plastics, rubber, soft tissues, and hydrogels, says Instron applications engineer Meredith Viveiros. It is also compatible with Instron's standard video extensometer (SVE), which provides high resolution and noncontacting strain measurement for a variety of materials.
