Optical Bonding for LCD Enhancement
Using refractive-index-matched optical (IMO) bonding, a proprietary process applies rigid optical filters such as contrast enhancers, EMI/RFI shielding, and Therma Klear transparent heaters to electronic displays. IMO-bond includes a family of durable, index-matched adhesives that optically couple a cover glass or touch screen to the display to eliminate reflection losses. Most commercial off-the-shelf displays are not designed for direct viewing in high-ambient-light conditions. The IMO-bond process enhances displays when the amount of light they reflect is close to or exceeds the amount of light they emit, according to the company. Under such conditions, the contrast loss can be close to 100%, causing washout as the display’s luminance is exceeded. Optically coupling a contrast-enhancing cover glass to the front polarizer of the display virtually eliminates reflections from the rear surface of the optical filter and the front surface of the display system. The process is suitable for enhancing electronic displays on instrumentation systems used in medical environments. Dontech Inc., Doylestown, PA.published date: 07-08-2009
