Carl Zeiss Scanning Technology Right from the Start

Three CONTURA G2 measuring machines offer customized entry-level scanning technology from Carl Zeiss.

CONTURA G2 scanning measuring machine: cost-effective entry into the world of scanning technology from Carl Zeiss.

Oberkochen, Germany – October 23, 2007 — With CONTURA® G2, Carl Zeiss Industrielle Messtechnik GmbH provides small and mid-sized companies access to the upper performance class of 3D metrology: CONTURA® G2 enables the cost-effective entry into the world of scanning technology from Carl Zeiss. The three models of this coordinate measuring machine – CONTURA G2 direkt, CONTURA G2 RDS and CONTURA G2 aktiv – particularly meet the specific requirements of customers. All three models feature the same accuracy – thanks to VAST® scanning technology. CAD-based CALYPSO® measuring software from Carl Zeiss provides optimum support during the generation of measuring programs, during a measurement and while evaluating the results.

CONTURA G2 direkt offers a particularly affordable way of entering the world of scanning technology for the production and progress inspection of single processing stages. This CMM with the VAST® XXT scanning sensor meets all demands for the measurement of small parts with standard geometries. Small single or star styli are generally sufficient for these parts which are usually generated by boring and milling centers in 2.5 or 3D processes. VAST XXT permits the measurement of geometry, form and position. Users often do not need special form measuring machines. Plastic and metal parts can be measured as well as machined parts.

CONTURA G2 RDS meets the specifications needed to measure complex features and parts with multiple angles that require smaller styli. It is equipped with the RDS articulating probe holder from Carl Zeiss that reaches more than 20,700 positions in 2.5° increments, as well as the VAST XXT probe for articulated scanning. VAST XXT can be used with styli up to 250 mm long, as well as very small styli with tip diameters of only 0.3 mm. The large deflection range and the low measuring force make this machine a very sturdy scanning sensor. Equipped with the ViScan® sensor, CONTURA G2 RDS also permits optical image analysis depending on the requirements.

CONTURA G2 aktiv is ideal for measuring deeper features such as ores. This measuring machine with the high-performance DynaTouch sensor is made for active single point and self-centering measuring. It can also be delivered with the VAST XT sensor to scan size, form and position. VAST XT offers active scanning, single-point measuring, self-centered measuring, and meets high throughput demands. Its high speed and high point densities make this sensor suitable for all applications in curve and freeform measuring, as well as reverse engineering.

Measure optical and by contact with VAST and CALYPSO software
CONTURA G2 is generally available with CAD-based CALYPSO scanning software which enables easy generation of measuring runs. With object-oriented programming, the operator uses the features of the design drawing. It is possible to make corrections and changes to existing measuring programs as well as generate partial measuring runs from an entire CNC program.

CALYPSO supports single-point measuring, scanning and optical measuring, and permits a plan/actual comparison of prismatic workpieces. The software thus enables form inspections on geometric features and digitization of unknown models. Scanning permits the reliable inspection of all features and geometries; CALYPSO illustrates possible deviations from the nominal form. The measuring results can be displayed in accordance with the user's requirements; reports can be customized. CALYPSO can be combined with HOLOS® software, which was developed to measure freeform surfaces.
