New Unbacked Membrane Debuts for Highly Sensitive Rapid Assays
Bedford, Massachusetts – August 7, 2002 Millipore today announced the availability of Un-Backed membrane for lateral-flow diagnostic assays. New Un-backed Hi-Flow Plus 180 membrane has exceptional consistency and a superior surface quality with no powder on the surface that can interfere with an assay. The membrane is intended for more sensitive rapid diagnostic test kits, such as infectious diseases, Drugs of Abuse testing, Cardiac Markers, etc.
Un-Backed Hi-Flow Plus 180 membrane has a nominal flow rate of 180 seconds across 4 centimeters of membrane, a flow rate variance of only 25% and a thickness variance of only 10%. A Master Roll Average specification of +/- 11% on capillarity and +/- 6% thickness ensures that the membrane will be consistent over time.
This new membrane compliments Millipore’s existing membrane offering of seven other Hi-Flow Plus membranes with lateral-flow rates of 65, 75, 90, 120, 135, 180, and 240 seconds across 4 centimeters of membrane. These backed membranes use a clear polyester material for greater tensile strength.
Hi-Flow Plus membranes are made at Millipore's Lateral Flow Casting Suite in Cork, Ireland, which features the first equipment built specifically for producing lateral flow membranes. The equipment uses advanced process controls to deliver membrane that meets tighter specifications within each manufacturing lot and between lots. The ISO and GMP compliant facility also manufactures a variety of pharmaceutical membranes and is a FDA registered medical device facility.
Millipore first introduced its family of Hi-Flow lateral-flow membranes in 1981. The company introduced the new Hi-Flow Plus family of membranes in 2000. For more information, please contact Millipore Tech Service at 1-800-MILLIPORE or visit www.millipore.com/healthcare.
