UV-resistant Tubing Available for Custom IV Sets
BETHLEHEM, Pa., (June 1, 2005) —ULTRABLOCK™ UV-resistant tubing is now available from the B. Braun OEM Division of B. Braun Medical Inc. that can be incorporated into custom IV sets. UV light can potentially cause an active ingredient in a drug to degrade. By blocking over 90% of UV light at any wavelength between 220-450nm (B. Braun DID #2548), the UV resistant tubing helps minimize degradation, which helps to maximize the efficacy of the drug for the patient.
The dual-layer tubing features an outer layer that contains an additive that acts as a UV inhibitor. The inner layer is DEHP and latex free. This double tubing ensures that fluid does not come in contact with the inhibitor. As an added advantage, the tubing is transparent so the user can easily see bubbles. Using UV-resistant tubing saves time because it is unnecessary to wrap the tubing with foil or other barriers to block UV light.
Standard tubing with I.D. 2.6mm and O.D. 3.9mm is available, as well as microbore tubing with I.D. 1.5mm and O.D. 3.9mm.
