Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Introduces BioSil® SB Silicone Material for Two Shot Medical Molding
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics (SGPPL) is launching BioSil® SB, an innovative self-bonding silicone formulation that bonds silicone rubber to Thermoplastic. BioSil® SB is a high-performance silicone material that results in the reduction of scrap waste and increase overall part quality performance of manufactured multi-material medical parts. SGPPL's Research & Development team has extensively tested the bond strength of BioSil® SB and various thermoplastics in multi-component moldings to ensure that the quality of the BioSil® SB material will meet customer expectations. The development of BioSil® SB compliments SGPPL's recent launch of two-shot medical molding. SGPPL's two-shot molding process allows a multi-material product of silicone and thermoplastic, which would have otherwise been molded independently and manually assembled, to be co-molded in one operation. SGPPL's two-shot process gives medical device designers flexibility in product design while reducing validation, assembly and logistic costs associated with two component assemblies. The addition of BioSil® SB and two-shot medical molding enhances SGPPL's portfolio of innovative capabilities and products designed to meet the most demanding needs of our customers. SGPPL is known for providing high-performance custom components and tubing to medical OEMs using its expertise in silicone and thermoplastic molding and extrusion. For more than 40 years, the SGPPL has been Leading the Way with Innovation, with its ability to customize and invent processing techniques as well as proprietary fabrication equipment to meet the most exact and demanding product needs.
