Lidding Offers Breathability for Devices
Lidding materials offer versatility and can be combined with rigid or flexible containers.
Lidding is often required to do double dutyit must provide an effective barrier to keep contaminants out, but it must also offer breathability to enable the product to be sterilized. Fortunately, the variety of lidding materials available addresses every need.
A good seal is essential; suppliers provide heat-seal and pressure-sensitive adhesives that are strong but that also peel away easily and cleanly. Suppliers can also supply printed lidding stock.
A supplier of medical packaging offers heat-seal-coated Tyvek and die-cut lids. Also available are PerfecFlex forming webs that are designed for use with coated materials or EZ Peel lid stock to provide the most cost-effective package possible. Perfecseal Inc., Philadelphia, PA.
A supplier of medical device packaging offers heat-sealable Tyvek, medical-grade paper, and film lidding materials. The DotCoat heat-seal technology is designed to ensure reliable, fiber-free, peelable seals and features improved EtO sterilization, radiation stability, and autoclavability. The company also offers blue-tinted 10MP heat-seal adhesive applied to Tyvek 2FS. Oliver Products Co., Grand Rapids, MI.
High-performance lidding made from heat-seal-coated Tyvek 1073B is suited for EtO and radiation sterilization. The TPT-021C lidding features SealScience proprietary coating technology and is available, printed or blank, as cut lids and rollstock. The lidding offers a 20°40°F wider seal window on most plastics when compared with other lidding. This allows for shorter dwell times and minimized flange distortion. Tolas Health Care Packaging, Feasterville, PA.
Lidding materials are available in all barrier levels from breathable to virtually impermeable and with the ability to seal and peel from a diverse range of substrates. The materials are supplied either in rollstock form or as precut lids, printed or unprinted. Other options include chemical resistance and compatibility with any sterilization method. Rollprint Packaging Products Inc., Addison, IL.
A lidding material can be used with rigid trays as well as with flexible form-fill-seal applications. Tyvek 1073B, with coatings applied by sterile packaging manufacturers, is compatible with all of the major sterilization methods, including emerging techniques. DuPont Tyvek, Wilmington, DE.
