A manufacturer introduces new eco-friendly desiccants. Desi Pak and Desi Can bentonite desiccants offer environmental benefits such as production without harsh chemicals, national instead of international ingredient transport, and lower-energy processing as compared with typical desiccants. They also provide higher adsorption over silica gel, according to the manufacturer. The bentonite desiccant series includes Desi Can Canisters for high-speed automated insertion in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications, Desi Pak Packets for manual insertion, Desi Pak Continu-Strip Packets for automated insertion at slow to medium line speeds, and Desi Pak Bags for bulk packaging and storage. A company introduces its new desiccant sachets. Pillow Paks are made from either silica gel, indicating silica gel, clay, molecular sieve, or carbon, or from a custom blend, to be used as a multifunction package. A blend of half silica gel and half carbon can be combined to combat moisture and odor. All Pillow Paks are FDA approved and can be used to absorb moisture, vapor, odor, or gas. Made from Tyvek, melfit nonwoven, or Clear View Pak substrates, the desiccants are available in 1-gal cans or 10-gal containers. Sorbead India, Gujrat, India; +91 265 2761041; www.sorbeadindia.com.
FDA-Approved Bottle
A company has acquired regulatory approval to produce a new desiccant bottle. The DryKeep will absorb moisture at a rate of three times higher than in-wall and traditional desiccants on the market, according to the manufacturer. The product uses a naturally occurring, edible desiccant material, which has received USP <671> certification. The compound can be molded into plastic containers, films, and more, and its moisture uptake is controllable to target specific internal humidity levels that will remain active for the life of the drug or chemical packaged, according to the manufacturer. A manufacturer has introduced a new line of continuous-strip desiccants. Strip Paks work with high-speed desiccant-dispensing machines, eliminating the need for manual insertion in high-volume desiccant settings. They are available in 0.25–4.0 g and allow customers to dispense desiccants on a roll at speeds of up to 300 bags per minute. Available in silica gel, clay, molecular sieve, activated carbon, and custom blends, the Strip Paks lower manual labor needs and therefore costs.
