More Information on Sustainability
The Sustainable Packaging Coalition is a group of more than 180 corporate members who participate in the coalition’s ongoing attempt to incorporate environmentally conscious methods into manufacturing.
Among the new programs that the group is involved in are curriculum activities and online design tools. Erin Malick, director of external relations, describes this as a valuable source.
“We’ve come up with design guidelines for packagers and engineers to get closer to the packaging process,” she says. The new curriculum is called Essentials of Sustainable Packaging and is a two-day workshop held throughout the country.
Malick also points out another tool for packagers who wish to go green. “It’s an online assessment program for lifecycle data. It’s for companies trying to figure out which is better. They enter the two designs, and the resource consumption is calculated.”
The coalition continually looks for methods to incorporate viable environmentally conservative measures into daily manufacturing. More information can be found at www.sustainablepackaging.org.
