PACKAGING RESOURCE CENTER: SHOW COVERAGE
Offering informative seminars and exhibitor booths, the 2008 International Transport Packaging Forum will take place March 17–20 in Orlando, FL. The event is produced by the International Safe Transit Association, a trade group that aims to educate professionals on new technology and ongoing issues in packaging and transportation throughout the supply chain.
The forum consists of three days of technical discussion. Topics include monitoring temperature, staff management, and the evolution of packaging.
Sustainability and vibration testing are two topics receiving multiple discussions. Robert Parvis, packaging manager for Sam’s Club, will discuss Wal-Mart and Sustainable Packaging in 2008. Bob Sanders, senior technical staff member, IBM Corp., will share the details of IBM’s carbon emissions managing tool, which provides information on the economic and environmental aspects of alternative operational choices.
Vibrations testing technology will get a closer look from Herb Shueneman, adjunct professor and instructor at San Jose State University. He’ll discus how to monitor actual input from truck, rail car, or aircraft shipping. Luther Stone of The Hershey Co. will give a talk called “Vibration Testing 101.” He’ll cover the fundamentals of vibrations and resonance testing.
ISTA members will have a chance to become an ISTA Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional (CPLP) during the event.
