TRACK AND TRACE

Living Science

Ali Afzali, an IBM research staff member, presented the following information during his presentation at Printed Electronics 2004:

“With growing interest in printed organic electronics, the availability of soluble organic semiconductors has become a crucial factor in realizing the goal of low-cost, large-area electronics. Any organic semiconductor to be considered for these applications should meet strict requirements of (a) accessibility, (b) solubility in common organic solvents, and (c) reasonable field-effect mobility. Inherent photosensitivity for patterning of organic thin-film transistors is obviously an added advantage.”

His talk described the synthesis of several soluble pentacene precursors that have shown the highest field-effect mobility among soluble organic semiconductors.
