Metro Label (Toronto, ON) has received Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies award based on its business practices and growth. The company produces pressure-sensitive labels in its Canadian manufacturing facilities in Toronto, Langley, and Montreal, as well as in its newest facility in Napa Valley, CA. The company is currently working to become the first label company in Canada to implement ISO 14001 Environment Management System, a voluntary adoption of stringent international guidelines designed to minimize pollution and maximize energy use. The second-generation, family-run company was created in 1974 and currently employs more than 250 people. The 50 Best Managed Companies award was established in 1993.
Pliant Corp. (Schaumburg, IL) is expanding its production assets serving its printed flexible packaging business in the United States and Canada. The additional assets are expected to be installed in June 2006 and include an eight-color flexographic printing press, a three-layer blown coextrusion film line, two slitters, and a wicketed bag machine. The company plans to use these equipment purchases to improve order cycle times and new product ramp-ups, create additional surge capacity, and enhance the company’s product portfolio.
