The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) has awarded its 2005 ISMP Lifetime Achievement Award to Herbert S. Carlin, president of Pharmaceutical Management Insight. He was honored for his efforts toward safe naming and labeling of drug products. According to ISMP, through his service on the USP Nomenclature Committee and the FDA-USP Product Labeling Committee, Carlin has played a large role in bringing about labeling and packaging changes to address serious safety issues, including the use of black caps for potassium chloride vials only.

Ken Murtagh has been named regional sales manager of Novapak Corp. (Eatontown, NJ). Murtagh will be responsible for all activities relating to sales of Novapak’s blow-molded containers to personal care, healthcare, and other customers in the Southeast. He was previously a regional vice president for Berlin Packaging, vice president of sales for Atlantis Plastics, and national sales manager for Avery Dennison, all in Atlanta.
Amcor Flexibles (Mundelein, IL) has appointed two new vice presidents. Jerry Bennish has been named vice president, strategy, Americas, and Tom Cochran has joined Amcor Flexibles as vice president, sales and marketing for the U.S. healthcare and personal care business. Bennish has been with Amcor Flexibles since 1991, most recently as vice president, sales and marketing for U.S. healthcare business. In addition to holding several sales and marketing and general management positions, Tom was most recently president of Tredegar Film Products.
Medisize has increased its bag manufacturing capability at its Medisize Ireland Ltd. (Donegal, Ireland) facility. The firm has acquired new radio-frequency (RF) welding machinery, adding to its use of thermal welding technology to manufacture multiple- chamber bags and peelable-seal technology. Medisize also offers custom-made components and accessories such as ports and saddles.
