The Medical Device Packaging Committee of the Institute of Packaging Professionals is scheduled to meet during HealthPack 2006. HealthPack 2006 will be held at the Crowne Plaza Market Center in Dallas, March 14–15. Schott Pharmaceutical Packaging (Elmsford, NY), a business segment of the German Schott Group, has announced that the company is building a factory in Suzhou, China. The production site will manufacture ampules and vials for use in the pharmaceutical industry in China. The factory will be integrated into the existing Schott Glass Technology Co. that was established in Suzhou in 2002. The company expects to begin production in July with approximately 50 new employees. The facility will use Schott Type 1 borosilicate glass to manufacture its tubing products.
Colbert Packaging Corp. (Lake Forest, IL) has joined the Independent Carton Group (Newtown, CT) as its 19th company member. The company joined the group in part to reaffirm its commitment to independent operation. It recently won the Paperboard Packaging Council’s 2005 Innovation Award for its BlisterGuard specialty package.
Amcor Plastube (Quebec, Canada) has been acquired by a purchasing group consisting of CAI Capital Management of Toronto and New York and certain members of Amcor Plastube’s current management. As a result of this purchase, the company has changed its name to Plastube North America. It will continue to operate out of its existing facility in Granby, QC, Canada. All of the current management has remained in place. The company’s operations will not be affected by the transaction.
