The government has created a network for healthcare providers, consumers, and other interested parties to use to search for the latest perspectives on patient safety. Articles from hundreds of journals are archived, with links to the relevant sources. Users can create a “My PSNet” page to tailor the site to their needs, and they can subscribe to weekly updates on patient safety findings. For instance, professionals interested in how bar coding can help prevent medication errors can set their pages to collect the latest news on bar coding. A search for “packaging” yielded two articles: one on look-alike labeling and packaging, and another on errors feared in the dosing of children’s medication.

A major standards-setting body has revamped its Web site with international and nontechnical users in mind. The site also offers several new features intended to ease navigation, including the addition of multiple portals, shortcuts for accessing information from the home page, and reorganization of the main sections of the site. New features provide shortcuts to information, allowing visitors to pick a topic from a drop-down menu. In particular, the “I am a . . .” and “How do I . . .” shortcuts allow visitors to specify who they are and tailor news and information based on specific needs. A tutorial on using the Web site is live, and a “What’s New” box conveys the latest headlines. The site includes a multilingual portal for Spanish and other languages.
