Peelable and nonpeelable high-barrier packaging systems are available to address packaging requirements for medications in new delivery systems, such as nasal swabs, oral melt strips, and transdermal patches. Features include reverse-printed polyester, four- and six-color gravure or flexographic printing, child resistance, and various foil gauges to meet specific barrier requirements. Blister Card
A company has introduced a new foil blister card for pharmaceutical products.
These new foil cards are a low-cost alternative to form-fill-seal blister packs
using two blister cards. Printed by Dot Packaging Group with as many as eight
colors, these new blister cards are made by laminating aluminum foil to a blister-grade
solid bleach sulfate card. When used in conjunction with a PVC/Aclar blister,
these cards provide a good moisture barrier. C.W.S. Inc., Norwich, NY;

Blister Foils
A line of blister foils seal to Aclar high-barrier films. The products
characteristics enable pharmaceutical manufacturers to invert the lamination
film and thermoform blisters with Aclar-In, resulting in improved barrier properties
of the total package compared with the usual Aclar structures. Applications
include peelable child-resistant foil as well as unsupported aluminum push-through
foil. Other materials will be introduced according to the markets demands.

Pharma-Pouch
A four-ply film/poly/foil/poly structure offers tear resistance and is suitable
for the most demanding child-resistance applications. This combination provides
significant improvements in tear and puncture resistance over similar film/foil
structures. Pharma-Pouch P1221 pouches can only be opened with scissors. This
opening feature thwarts children who typically resort to biting or tearing.
The exterior film is clay coated to give it the familiar white background of
many paper-out containing pouch materials used in the pharmaceutical industry
today. Pharma-Pouch P1221 can be surface printed and overcoated in multiple
colors for brand identifi-cation and is available for sampling purposes.

A new foil laminate is suited for overwrapping materials, such as towelettes, gauze, etc., impregnated with liquids and lotions. Flexi 6648 features PET/foil/clear PE. The structure offers moisture vapor and oxygen permeability, which are key performance characteristics for liquid-saturated products. Additionally, the laminate has been engineered for good sealing and machinability. This enables optimum production speeds, thereby maximizing plant efficiency. Further, the structure holds up to many of the additives/ingredients encountered in these application types. The companys investment in a new press enables printing of up to 10 colors. Foil Laminations
![]() |
Heat-seal-coated foil laminations offer medical device manufacturers a packaging solution for devices requiring puncture-resistant barrier packaging. The foil laminations are coated with adhesives formulated to provide visual assurance of seal integrity and peel smoothly yet are resistant to high-altitude creep, low-temperature flex, and stress caused by impact and vibration during shipping and handling. Foil laminations also provide puncture resistance and light, oxygen, and moisture barrier properties for sensitive products. Available as peelable or tear-open pouches, die-cut lidding, and printed rollstock, the foils are sealable to a va-riety of foils and high-barrier films, PETG, PVC, PP, HDPE, and other rigid tray materials. They are also compatible with radiation sterilization. Tolas Health Care Packaging, Feasterville, PA; 215/322-7900; www.tolas.com.
Aluminum Foil
A company provides alluminum foil to fit the demand of converters that are developing
packages with ever-more exacting specifications. According to the company, the
foil guarantees the products integrity, retains its beneficial properties,
and protects it against external effects. Aluminum foil easily lends itself
to all kinds of manufacturing processes, including combining with other materials,
laminating, lacquering, glue lamination, printing, deep drawing, embossing,
and cutting. Alcan PackagingPharmaceutical Flexibles, Shelbyville,

Trustseal
A company offers a packaging and labeling solution designed for simple verification
but difficult duplication. Trustseal is a patented technology based on diffractive
optics that is available in varying levels of complexity. It can incorporate
serial numbering, nanotext, partial demetalization, and tamper evidence. Kurz
