Schneider Electric (Rueil-Malmaison, France) has entered into a cooperation with Elau AG (Marktheidenfeld, Germany) in the automation of packaging machines. The transaction responds to three key aspects of Schneider Electric’s strategy: the acceleration of growth in the packaging machinery OEM market, the widening of its offerings in the motion control field, and the enhancement of its presence in the German industrial automation market. 

DVT (Duluth, GA) will host its 2004 global business conference and user group meeting September 12–16 in Las Vegas. Attendees will hear top industry experts and participate in a variety of training programs, industry breakout sessions, and management development seminars. Trustcopy USA (Orlando, FL) has announced the opening of its U.S. operation. The company offers digital watermark and security solutions that provide customers with product and document security. 

Almedica International (Allendale, NJ) has completed construction on a new and expanded clinical trial materials primary packaging suite at its Almedica Europe facilities in Deeside, UK. The new, larger rooms are fully validated to CGMP standards. They allow for significant improvements in production capacity. This includes overencapsulation, placebo capsule filling, as well as bottle filling and multiproduct blistering using standard and Almedica CombiCard formats. 

DT Packaging Systems (Leominster, MA) has been renamed Nova Packaging Systems with management buyout from DT Industries. The rechristened company will continue to sell, support, and service the Lakso, Merrill, Kalish, Swiftpack, and King product lines. 

Integrated BioSciences Inc. (Harrisburg, PA) has expanded its outsourcing capabilities to offer total project management for companies looking to outsource their products. The company now offers a full range of services to include product design support and prototyping, molding, assembly, packaging, private labeling, and sterilization. 

Johann A. Krause Machinefabrik GmbH has named Cognex Corp. (Na-tick, MA) as its preferred supplier worldwide for machine vision systems. Johann designs, develops, and delivers turnkey assembly lines that are used in automotive plants around the world to manufacture and test powertrain components. The company relies on Cognex’s In-Sight family of vision sensors to perform ID-Code reading, OCR/OCV, part detection, part inspection, and assembly verification. 
Alcan Packaging–Pharmaceutical Flexibles (Shelbyville, KY) has achieved certification for ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 from QMI, an accredited registrar. The ISO 9001:2000 certification includes all design, development, and production activities. 

Mocon Inc. (Minneapolis) expands its offerings to include testing and consulting services. The company’s testing and consulting services for films or finished packages include odor analysis, permeation analysis, microbiological activity, taste panels, and distribution studies.

Curtis Packaging (Sandy Hook, CT) has installed a new all-UV 10-station 51-in. KBA Rapida press with dispersion coater. The press is the first of its kind in North America and is designed to print spot colors and metallics more attractively and effectively.
