Amcor Flexibles Healthcare (Mundelein, IL) has received ISO 13485 certification for all four of its American manufacturing sites. The company is reportedly the first flexible medical device packaging manufacturer to be registered to the quality system specific to medical devices.

The Packaging Education Forum (PEF) has announced the distribution of $400,000 in assets to packaging programs at six universities. The funds will be allocated in the following manner: $200,000 to the packaging program at San Jose State University for the establishment of a research & development laboratory; $100,000 to the University of Florida’s Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences for the establishment of an endowment in packaging science; $25,000 to the packaging science program at Clemson University in support of capital needs for research, teaching equipment, and laboratory upgrades; $25,000 to the School of Packaging at Michigan State University for the purchase, maintenance, and upgrading of software, hardware, processing and filling equipment, instrumentation, and new technologies; $25,000 to the Packaging Science Department at Rochester Institute of Technology for the expansion and development of its materials/containers laboratory; and $25,000 to the packaging program at the University of Wisconsin/Stout to support the equipment, supplies, and services acquisitions of the program. 

F&S Tool (Erie, PA) has completed work on a $1.7 million Product Development Center. The new center features presses fitted with the latest high-speed packaging options and software packages, and allows the company to sample and debug tooling on location. 

Shuttleworth (Huntington, IN) has relocated its European manufacturing operations from Ireland to Belgium, a move the company says will enhance support for its European-based customers.

Flottman Co. (Crestview Hills, KY) has purchased a new Heidelberg six-color press with perfecting and coating capabilities. The new press, capable of printing six colors and an aqueous coating, contains a larger sheet capacity and the latest technology with increased production speeds. It can print six colors on one side of the sheet, or two sides of the sheet in one pass by printing four colors on one side and two on the opposite side.
