Industry BriefsCH2M Hill (Denver) has acquired Lockwood Greene (Spartanburg, SC) for $95.5 million. Lockwood Greene is an engineering and construction firm. CH2M Hill provides engineering, construction, operations, project management, and related technical services to public and private clients worldwide.
GN Packaging Equipment (Toronto) and Maverick Packaging International Ltd. (Cape Town, South Africa) have formed a new company called Maverick Machinery Ltd. The new company will allow their combined manufacturing and engineering capabilities to focus on new and specific areas of the liquid pouch marketplace.
The World Packaging Organization has awarded Prent Corp. (Janesville, WI) two WorldStar Awards. The winning entries include the Ava-Tex bone cement delivery system designed for Cardinal Health and the CVC with drape designed for Cook Inc.
CCL Industries Inc. (Toronto) has entered into a strategic alliance with Weener Plastik Packaging Group (Weener, Germany). Under the agreement, CCL Plastic Packaging acquired the exclusive manufacturing and distribution rights to Weener’s entire product line for the United States and Canadian markets.
Diamond Packaging (Rochester, NY) has been recognized as “Best of the Best” in the 2003 Best Workplace in America awards competition, sponsored by the Master Printers of America. The program is designed to recognize graphic arts companies for their outstanding human relations efforts in recruiting and retaining qualified staff.
Cognex Corp. (Natick, MA) is hosting a new series of free machine vision seminars that combine a machine vision basics tutorial with live vision sensor demonstrations. The seminars will run from February through June in major cities across the United States and Canada.
Pharmagraphics LLC (Greensboro, NC) has opened a new pharmaceutical label, packaging insert, and packaging outsert manufacturing facility. The 70,000-sq-ft plant in Greensboro began full operation in June 2003 and services customers in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries for printed compliance packaging.
Perfecseal (Oshkosh, WI), a division of Bemis Flexible Packaging, has begun operation of its New London, WI, plant. The plant will supply films to medical device companies and Perfecseal’s global converting plants.
BASF (Mount Olive, NJ) has begun production of Styrolux styrene-butadiene copolymers (SBCs) at its Altamira, Mexico, facility. Styrolux SBC is a line of injection molding and extrusion thermoplastic resins that offer a combination of high transparency and impact strength.
Unicep Packaging Inc. (Sandpoint, ID) has updated its extensive formulation department by adding a full line of pharmaceutical-grade Ross-Olsa mixers that can accommodate batch sizes from 5 to 1000 L. With the addition of a wider range of mixing capabilities, the company offers customers the ability to run small R&D batches and then quickly gear up to full production runs.
