Biocompostable Film Not Just for Food

Klöckner Pentaplast (Gordonsville, VA) has introduced a new packaging thermoplastic polymer derived from annually renewable resources such as corn. The biocompostable film, called Pentafood PLA (PolyLactic Acid), is currently used in food packaging; however, Michael Ryan, director of marketing, says that it may be appropriate for wrapping some pharmaceutical products.

The film offers good clarity, printability, toughness, and gauge control and is available in transparent, translucent, or opaque colors. It offers good resistance to fats and oils and has a good barrier for flavor and aroma.
