PRODUCT UPDATE

Dependable Cartoners

Complete the secondary packaging process with a variety of cartoning units and related equipment.

SL904
A slim-line, end-load machine with a robotic insertion unit mounted above the machine body cuts machine width and improves access to the loading area. The rugged construction with PLC, touch screen, and servo drives ensures continuous speeds up to 160 cpm. The SL904 is also offered with an optional barrel loading system with a newly designed space-saving shaft drive. Bradman-Lake, Charlotte, NC; 704/588-3301; www.bradmanlake.com.

VSK-S 400 and VSK-S 410
Two UV printing systems are available for printing complete text and variable information onto flat packaging materials, such as folding boxes and blistercards. The VSK-S 400 series uses special printing procedures that employ flexography and the offset print process. Before the print is transferred onto the product, it is transferred from the print mat onto a soft rubber roller, providing good print images, even over glue seams and uneven surfaces. The VSK-S 400 uses special inks that are cured by passing under the system's UV dryer. The inks are solvent-free and clean-up time is minimized as the ink remains in its original form in the ink well for extended periods of time. The construction of the system allows for loading and unloading of material while the machine is in operation. The VSK-S 410 offers print image control via a bar codereading camera, double-layer infeed prevention control, a reject station to single out nonprinted or insufficiently printed material, and a control panel with text display. I&H Denester System
A denester and carton-handling application is fully automated, eliminating the need to use a full-time operator for the process. The machine features a two-stage belt system, which provides positive case separation. The I&H Denester is designed for quick-change adjustment for various shell sizes and can reach speeds of 80 shells per minute. Columns randomly oriented on a pallet are easily handled. In addition, the variable-frequency drive allows for automatic speed adjustments. Fleetwood Inc., Romeoville, IL; 630/759-6800; www.fleetinc.com.

MA255
A continuous-motion horizontal cartoner has been developed for ease of operation. All functions take place in clearly visible, easily accessible areas. Operating diagnostics are displayed on an eye-level control panel, and changeovers are easy and fast. Maintenance is minimal, and sealed oil baths keep the main drive movements quiet and vibration free. The sturdy balcony construction keeps work areas separate from mechanical parts in compliance with GMP standards. The cartoner has the capability of speeds up to 200 cpm and features a new carton-erection system. An innovative tilting arm combined with a mechanical prebreak allows erected cartons to be placed directly into transport chain lugs. There is automatic rejection of products missing or incomplete cartons. Marchesini Packaging Machinery Inc., Landing, NJ; 973/575-7445; mpmagent@mpmagent.com.
