PRODUCT UPDATE: Cartoners

Cartoners Handle Cartons and Products Smoothly

Easy-to-use cartoners provide the speed necessary for quick changeovers.

Both manual and automatic product-loading cartoners are available in medium- and high-speed capacities. The 60-series horizontal cartoners can withstand extreme working conditions. All of the company's cartoners can run various styles of cartons, including straight tuck, autobottom/crash lock/Himes lock, four-flap, glue flap, and hanging tab. The cartoners are also capable of handling cartons within quite a large size range. Bivans Corp., Los Angeles, CA.

A new family of cartoners is available in both constant- and intermittent-motion models on 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 in. centers. The Criterion 2000 line of cartoners features debris fall-through design, unitized stainless-steel construction, and sanitary washdown capability. The modular design of the cartoners allows configuration to order. Options for the machines include open-flap detect and reject, date coding by deboss, laser or ink-jet printing, coupon and premium inserts, and product infeeds. A PC-based logic controller features a machine-mounted color touch screen panel for operator interface. R. A. Jones & Company, Inc., an IWKA Co., Cincinnati, OH.

A universal cartoner is capable of handling varied production conditions. The C150 cartoner has modular-design stations for product loading and transport. For cartoning tubes, bottles, and bags, it is equipped with an intermittent-motion bucket chain. For cartoning blisters, it uses a continuous-motion product chain. Complete machine changeover takes 15–30 minutes. The C150 is capable of packing up to 400 blisters per minute, with a maximum output of 150 cartons per minute. The adjustment positions have digital indicators, which allow for precise reproduction of settings down to 0.1 mm. Uhlmann Packaging Systems Inc., Towaco, NJ.

A high-speed cartoner is designed for smooth handling of cartons and products at outputs up to 300 cartons per minute. The Romaco/Siebler CH2/300 has a modular cantilevered balcony design that is in compliance with GMPs. The design affords convenient access to all major adjustment points for quick and easy format changeovers. Romaco Inc., Morris Plains, NJ.
