PRODUCT UPDATE
CLOSURES Keep Products Secure
Various closure designs keep children out,let seniors in.
Vented closures allow container venting without leaking. Both standard and custom-designed closures are available. Closures are equipped with Circumvent and AirFoil, patented vented liner systems that use hydrophobic film laminated to either polyfoam or heat-induction foil liners. Circumvent is designed to be used with a broad range of chemicals, including formulations with low surface tension such as detergents, solvents, oils, and acids. AirFoil is the only vented heat-induction foil available commercially, and it provides high seal quality and tamper evidence. Performance Systematix Inc., Caledonia, MI.
Child-resistant closures are designed to be easy for elderly users who may lack hand strength. MACduma caps are currently available in sizes of 24-400, 28-400, and 33-400, with larger and smaller sizes planned for future availability. The true 400 finishes of the closures give the user space to press down on the cap in order to engage the push-and-turn mechanism. Because the caps offer no reverse resistance, they remain child resistant at very low removal torques. The closures are also characterized by large rounded ribs and embossed pictorial instructions. MAC Closures Inc., Waterloo, QC, Canada.
A parenteral packaging system with an all-plastic closure is available from a company that specializes in creating custom packaging for pharmaceutical, healthcare, and personal-care companies worldwide. The Harmony closure design allows for the complete sealing of vials in a lyophilization chamber. Working on custom projects with clients, the manufacturer produces precision glass and plastic containers, closures, and packaging components as well as dropper assemblies. Capabilities include conceptual development, CAD and CAM design services, injection molding, injection blow molding, decorating, and contract packaging. Design and manufacturing are done with in-house equipment in FDA-registered and CGMP-compliant facilities. Comar Inc., Buena, NJ.
A one-piece child-resistant closure for healthcare and pharmaceutical applications features a low profile. The senior-friendly Squeeze-Lok is a continuous-thread, nontorque-dependent closure with a squeeze-and-turn mechanism that audibly and tactilely enters the locked position. Its one-piece design enables it to be molded in one operation and eliminates the need for any secondary assembly. The closure is offered in sizes of 20, 24, 28, 33, 38, 45, and 53 mm. Rexam Closures & Containers, Evansville, IN.
