Radvak

Diagnostic test manufacturer Response Biomedical Corp. (Burnaby, BC, Canada) has appointed Duane A. Morris to the role of chief operating officer. He replaces company cofounder Brian Richards, who will remain a member of the board of directors. Morris joins Response from GlaxoSmithKline (Greenford, Middlesex, UK), where he was vice president and general manager of the company's biodefense facility in Bothell, WA. In addition to Morris's appointment, Bill Radvak, president and CEO of Response, announced his intention to step down once a successor is identified.

CryoCor Inc. (San Diego) has expanded its scientific advisory board by adding three new medical advisers who specialize in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. The company's new medical advisers are Hugh Calkins, MD, director of electrophysiology at Johns Hopkins University; Mark Josephson, MD, chief of cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; and Hung-Fat Tse, MD, professor of medicine at the University of Hong Kong.

Dolf Meewis has joined CoreValve (Irvine, CA) as vice president of international sales. Meewis, who will be headquartered in The Netherlands, founded and served as principal of Medilogic, a medical specialty device technology incubator and consulting firm also in The Netherlands. Originally trained as an operating room nurse, he has held sales and marketing positions at Interventional Technologies, Johnson & Johnson Inc., W. L. Gore & Associates, and U.S. Surgical.

Rardin

AcryMed Inc. (Beaverton, OR), a medical technology company specializing in wound care and infection control, has appointed David Rardin as the company's vice president of marketing and business development. Prior to joining AcryMed, Rardin was vice president of global marketing for Conor Medsystems Inc. (Menlo Park, CA), which was recently acquired by Johnson & Johnson Inc. Prior to that, Rardin held management positions with Medtronic Inc., Guidant Vascular Intervention, and Precision Vascular Systems.

Kersey

CAS Medical Systems Inc. (Branford, CT), a medical device company focused on noninvasive vital signs monitoring, announced that Andrew E. Kersey, the company's current chief operating officer, will assume the role of president and CEO when current president and CEO Louis P. Scheps retires on April 1, 2007. With more than 20 years' experience in the medical device industry, Kersey has been with CAS since 2001. Prior to joining the company, he held various engineering management positions at Novametrix Medical Systems Inc. and at Corometrics Medical Systems, a division of Marquette Medical.

ArthroCare Corp. (Austin, TX) has expanded its board of directors from seven to eight members by electing Terrence Geremski as its newest member. Geremski will also serve as a member of the audit committee of ArthroCare's board. He recently retired as senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Carpenter Technology Corp. (Wyomissing, PA), an international manufacturer and distributor of specialty metals and engineered products.

Geoffrey S. Ginsburg, MD, PhD, has joined the scientific advisory board of VisEn Medical Inc. (Woburn, MA), a developer of molecular imaging technologies. Ginsburg is a professor of medicine and pathology and director of the Center for Genomic Medicine at Duke University's Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy. His work centers on the identification and application of predictive biomarkers in developing and applying novel therapies and for improved research and clinical medicine.

Aspect Medical Systems Inc. (Norwood, MA) has appointed John J. O'Connor and Michael A. Esposito to its board of directors. Prior to his retirement in November 2006, O'Connor was vice chairman of services for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (New York City) and served as partner at the firm for 24 years. Esposito, a partner at management consulting firm Norbridge Inc. (Concord, MA), brings to the board more than 20 years of functional and strategic planning experience in the health industry.

Rardin

Donald Rucker, MD, vice president and chief medical officer for Siemens Medical Solutions (Malvern, PA), has been appointed commissioner of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology. In this role, Rucker will be working to review criteria and inspection processes for certification of healthcare information technology solutions.

Amy Jensen Cunniffe has joined industry association AdvaMed (Washington, DC) as senior executive vice president and director of the government affairs department. She will be responsible for leading AdvaMed's advocacy efforts with Congress, the Administration, and state governments. Cunniffe joins AdvaMed from Quinn Gillespie & Associates (Washington, DC), where she led the firm's healthcare practice.
