Timothy J. Budacki is president and managing consultant of Hazard Management Associates (Sewickley, PA), a consulting practice geared toward the application of human factors in product liability loss prevention, regulatory compliance, environmental due diligence, and responsible care initiatives. He has consulted for more than 150 medical device, drug, and food manufacturers. Budacki's firm places special emphasis on the proper management of human factors in product design, user manuals, warnings, and instructional materials to prevent management errors, and product and environmental mishaps. Michael T. Howard is chief financial officer and senior vice president for corporate services at Medrad Inc. USA (Indianola, PA). Howard joined the company in 1991 as vice president for finance and chief financial officer. In 1994 he was promoted to senior vice president for corporate services, with responsibility for leading Medrad's global finance, information technology, human resources, marketing services, internal consulting, corporate affairs, and legal services functions. During Howard's tenure, Medrad's sales revenues have grown from $49 million to $344 million (2004) through a combination of new products and international expansion supported by effective financial planning, analysis, and control. Brooks R. Magratten is an attorney with the law firm of Vetter & White (Providence, RI). His practice focuses on the defense of commercial, product liability, and insurance claims, and claims related to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). He has represented a variety of manufacturers, insurers, and financial institutions in litigation in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Magratten was appointed chair of the health and disability insurance law committee of the American Bar Association in August 2004. He also serves as program chair for the life, health, and disability committee of the Defense Research Institute (Chicago).
