ImaRx Therapeutics Inc. (Tucson, AZ), a developer of medicines to replace minimally invasive surgery, has hired Randall E. Miller, PhD, as COO and has named Greg A. Cobb its CFO. Miller, who recently served as president and CEO of Dermal Systems International Inc. (San Francisco), will oversee ImaRx's clinical trials in stroke and peripheral arterial occlusions, and guide its R&D and outlicensing programs. Cobb, who previously worked as interim CFO of ImaRx, cofounded and served as managing director of Catalyst Partners, a boutique merger, acquisition, and business development firm. ImaRx's lead product, SonoLysis, is in both Phase I and II studies for stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and peripheral arterial occlusive disease.

Cardiac arrhythmia monitoring provider eCardio Diagnostics LLC (The Woodlands, TX) has hired Robert Jordan to be executive vice president. In his new position, Jordan will oversee the company’s marketing strategy and recruit representatives in the field. Previously, he was an executive at Diagnostic Monitoring Associates (The Woodlands, TX), a national marketing and sales firm, and has worked at Pacific Telesis, McCaw Communications, and BellSouth.

Axya Medical Inc. (Beverly, MA), a developer of minimally invasive, arthroscopic surgery devices, has named James V. Barrile executive vice president and COO. Barrile cofounded and served as CFO at Innovasive Devices Inc. (Marlborough, MA), a manufacturer of orthopedic sports medicine products. He also worked as a senior manager at Vasca Inc. (Tewksbury, MA), where he prepared the company for product launch and operations scale-up. "Jim Barrile brings considerable knowledge and medical device industry expertise to our arthroscopic focus," said Axya Medical president and CEO Paul Fenton. "As we continue to expand our ultrasonic technology platform to other areas such as endoscopic and open surgical procedures, Jim will play an important leadership role in our success."

Recom Managed Systems (Greenville, SC), a life sciences company developing a patented ambulatory heart-monitoring technology, has grown its management team with the addition of three key executives. Recom president and CEO Pamela Bunes said the recent appointments would help the company bring its Model 100 heart monitor to market and would expand opportunities for the company's patented signal-monitoring technology. Jane Greene was appointed vice president of market development; she previously founded two medical-monitoring companies, serving as chair, president, and CEO of both Monitor Medx, a cardiac-monitoring company, and Medical Resource Management, a perinatal home-monitoring company. Claire Mouton LaFrance was named director of marketing and communications; she was previously employed as corporate sales manager and physician liaison for the Greenville Hospital System. Stan Gelfer was appointed director of information systems; he was previously a senior project manager for strategic business development at Countrywide Financial Services, and has held senior MIS positions at several corporations, including Amgen, Warner Brothers, and Disney.

Instromedix (San Diego), a company specializing in mobile medical event recording devices, has appointed David Barach as the company's new president and CEO. Prior to joining Instromedix, Barach served as executive vice president and president at WiFi and Bluetooth start-up companies and held leadership positions at Global Microwave, CommQuest, and Hughes Microelectronics. He was also founder of COM-Solutions, a cellular chip company. Barach is focused on delivering products that make it easier for physicians and patients to manage changing healthcare needs. "When Instromedix technology becomes part of the doctor-patient relationship," he said, "there is a stronger connection between the two, enabling the physicians to deliver better and efficient healthcare."
