Tom Connaughton, JD, is vice president of legislative affairs for the medical device and supply company Cook Group Inc. (Bloomington, IN), serving in the firm's Washington, DC, office, which he opened in 2003. He has been engaged in public policy efforts in the capital for more than 30 years, first as Senator Birch Bayh's chief of staff and then as managing partner of a law firm that represented medical device and pharmaceutical companies, including Cook, regarding legislative and regulatory matters. Between leaving his law practice in 2000 and joining Cook last year, Connaughton served as president of the American Association for Homecare. He can be reached via e-mail at tom@cookgroupinc.com.

Randel E. Richner is vice president for government affairs and reimbursement and outcomes planning with Boston Scientific Corp. (Natick, MA), a medical device developer and manufacturer of less-invasive technologies. Although based at the company's Massachusetts headquarters, she shuttles frequently to a Washington, DC, office she opened for Boston Scientific upon assuming leadership of its global governmental affairs function in 2001. Richner joined Boston Scientific in 1997 after a period spent doing similar health economics and policy work for GlaxoSmithKline. Prior to that, she was a transplant and dialysis nurse for 13 years. Daniel Waldmann, JD, is the director of federal affairs and reimbursement for the medical device and pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson (New Brunswick, NJ), working in the company's Washington, DC, office. Before joining J&J, he worked as an independent consultant, providing policy consulting and advocacy services to a wide variety of clients and serving as the executive director of the Medical Technology Leadership Forum, a nonprofit organization formed to facilitate dialogue among leaders in medical technology, healthcare delivery, and government on issues related to medical innovation. Waldmann was previously legislative counsel to Medtronic and an attorney in the food and drug practice of McKenna & Cuneo, an international law firm headquartered in Washington.
