Business Drivers

St. Jude Medical (St. Paul, MN) has announced that its Daig division will be separated into two new divisions: cardiology and atrial fibrillation. Paul R. Buckman has been appointed president of the new cardiology division. Most recently, Buckman was chairman and CEO of ev3 LLC (Plymouth, MN), a medical device company focused on endovascular therapies. Jane J. Song has been appointed president of the new atrial fibrillation division. She has served as president of the company's cardiac surgery division since 2002, and was previously senior vice president of operations for St. Jude's cardiac rhythm management division. George J. Fazio, president of St. Jude Europe since 2001, will replace Song as president of the cardiac surgery division. Replacing Fazio will be Denis M. Gestin, who is currently vice president for northern Europe and Africa and previously managed the company's subsidiary in France. St. Jude also announced that David Adinolfi, who has served as president of the Daig division since 2001, has decided to retire.

Hall

The Organization for Professionals in Regulatory Affairs (TOPRA; London) has announced the election of Cheryl Hall as president for 2004–2005. She will succeed past-president elect Brian James. Hall is currently senior director of regulatory affairs at Johnson & Johnson (New Brunswick, NJ). She has more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and has held senior positions at SmithKline Beecham (now GlaxoSmithKline), Norwich Eaton (now Procter & Gamble Co.), and Parke-Davis (now Pfizer Inc.). "This year is about expanding our international reach beyond our current 45 countries and continuing to deliver outstanding service to the global regulatory affairs community," said Hall.

Begley

Christopher B. Begley has been elected as a director of The Executives' Club of Chicago, a business forum. Begley is currently chief executive officer of Hospira Inc. (Lake Forest, IL). He joins a slate of directors at The Executives' Club for a two-year term that expires in June 2006.

Michael Paull has joined Ogenix Corp. (Cleveland) as chief financial officer. Most recently, Paull was director of finance for Fidelity Investments (Boston). Ogenix is a medical device company specializing in regenerative wound care.

Ganz

OmniSonics Medical Technologies Inc. (Wilmington, MA) announced that it has appointed Richard G. Ganz president and chief executive officer. Most recently, Ganz was president of the North American renal business for Baxter Healthcare Corp. (Orlando, FL). During his career, Ganz has served as division vice president and general manager of the vascular medicine business at Abbott Laboratories (Abbott Park, IL). OmniSonics also announced that it has appointed Anne M. Kulis as vice president of quality, regulatory, and clinical affairs. Most recently, Kulis was vice president of regulatory and clinical affairs at NMT Medical Inc. (Boston).

Dade Behring Inc. (Deerfield, IL) announced that it has appointed Manfred Lammers, PhD, as a fellow for his achievement in protein testing over the course of his career with the company. Lammers is the director for clinical and scientific affairs and product support at the company's Marburg, Germany, location, where he works on hemostasis, infectious-disease diagnostics, and plasma protein businesses.

Surgical devices maker Encision Inc. (Boulder, CO) has announced the appointment of John R. Serino as president and chief executive officer. Serino will replace James A. Bowman, who has resigned. Most recently, Serino was vice president of sales and marketing at Quinton Cardiology Inc. (Bothell, WA). Encision also announced that its board of directors has appointed Roger C. Odell chairman of the board. Odell is a cofounder of the company and currently serves as vice president of business development.

OraSure Technologies Inc. (Bethlehem, PA) announced that it has appointed Douglas A. Michels president and chief executive officer. Michels succeeds Mike Gausling, who has announced that he will retire. Michels has also been named to the company's board of directors. In his career, Michels has served as group vice president for global marketing at Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Inc. (Raritan, NJ), a Johnson & Johnson company; president of Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics International; and president of Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems Inc. (Piscataway, NJ).

Baxter International Inc. (Deerfield, IL) has appointed John Greisch senior vice president and chief financial officer. Greisch was previously corporate vice president and president of Baxter's bioscience business. Baxter also announced the election of Joy A. Amundson as corporate vice president of its bioscience business. Amundson previously served as an executive with Abbott Laboratories (Abbott Park, IL) for more than 20 years.

Veenema

Logical Images Inc. (Rochester, NY), a developer of point-of-care medical diagnostic software, announced that it has appointed Tener Goodwin Veenema, PhD, vice president of educational services. Her responsibilities will include developing new products for training nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, and first responders in disaster management. Veenema is currently an associate professor of clinical nursing and emergency medicine at the University of Rochester School of Nursing and School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Wright Medical Group Inc. (Arlington, TN) has appointed Laurence Y. Fairey president and chief executive officer. Fairey has been a member of the company's board of directors since January, and will remain on the board. F. Barry Bays, the current president and chief executive officer, will become executive chairman of the board. During his career, Fairey has served in several executive capacities at Medtronic Sofamor Danek Inc. (Memphis), including executive vice president and chief financial officer, president of international, and president of neurologics.

Merit Medical Systems Inc. (South Jordan, UT) has announced the appointment of Martin R. Stephens as vice president of business development. Stephens will be responsible for identifying merger, acquisition, distribution, and technology opportunities for the company. He is currently speaker of the Utah House of Representatives.
