Stuart L. Foster is corporate vice president for technology and discovery at Edwards Lifesciences (Irvine, CA). Foster joined Edwards in 1994, when the company was Baxter's CardioVascular Group, as president of the vascular business. In 1997, his responsibilities increased to include global oversight responsibilities for the critical-care business. He was also responsible for all international operations of the CardioVascular business and led its technology innovation team. From 2000 to 2001, he served as the company's corporate vice president for global operations. In 2001, he assumed his current role, which includes management of research and development, discovery, and operations. Prior to joining Baxter, Foster was CEO and president of Intramed Laboratories, which was acquired by Baxter in 1994. Prior to that, he was an executive with SensorMedics Corp., a medical device company that he cofounded. Colin Hunsley is head of the licensing support and assertion business unit at BTG plc (London), a world leader in the commercialization of novel technologies with offices in Europe, North America, and Japan. Hunsley is responsible for licensing technologies to corporations, primarily in the United States, Europe, and Japan. During 15 years with BTG, Hunsley has specialized in commercializing medical technologies, including disposables, magnetic resonance imaging, and orthopedics technologies. Stephen C. Macevicz, PhD, JD, is vice president for intellectual property at Aclara BioSciences (Mountain View, CA). He came to Aclara from GeneProt Inc. (Geneva), where he served as vice president of intellectual property. He has also previously held positions as vice president of intellectual property at Lynx Therapeutics, senior patent attorney and chief patent counsel at Applied Biosystems Inc., and patent counsel at DNAX Research Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology, a research subsidiary of Schering-Plough Corp. Macevicz holds a JD from the University of California at Berkeley, a PhD in biophysics from the University of California at Berkeley, and a BA in mathematics from San Diego State University. Richmond A. Wolf, PhD, is associate director of the office of technology transfer at the California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, CA). He oversees the patent portfolio of Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and is responsible for licensing various technologies originating at JPL as well as various information technologies developed at Caltech. Wolf has cofounded and consulted for a number of technology-based start-up companies. He is a graduate of Caltech, having received his PhD in geology in 1997.
