Off-Shore Accountability?Patient safety and HIPAA compliance top the list of IT concerns for hospital-based CIOs, according to the 14th Annual HIMSS Leadership Survey conducted by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS; Chicago) and sponsored by Superior Consultant Co. (Southfield, MI). Respondents also expressed frustration with a lack of financial support, and vendors' inability to deliver products. At the annual meeting of Tyco International Inc. (Pembroke, Bermuda), on March 6, shareholders rejected a proposal to reincorporate in Delaware, where the company originated. Proponents argued that reincorporation would make the company's officers and directors more accountable.
Industry association
AdvaMed (Washington, DC) has announced its support of President Bush's blueprint for a broad reform of the U.S. Medicare system. "By giving patients more control and more choices in the healthcare they receive, the president's blueprint for change will spur the innovation that is needed to deliver higher quality, more affordable care," said Carol Kelly, AdvaMed's executive vice president for healthcare systems and federal legislative policy.
