Refining the Marketing Mix

Joseph Doyle is chairman and CEO of 1Health Communications (Venice, CA), and immediate past president of the Medical Marketing Association (San Francisco), the nation’s leading trade association of medical marketers.

Doyle has more than 25 years of experience in medical marketing, sales, and communications. He was named president of BGMHealth in 1991, and became CEO of the firm in 1996. In 1998, he was responsible for bringing FMJ into the Omnicom Group of healthcare agencies. Earlier this year, BGM-FMJ Healthcomm was relaunched as 1Health Communications.

Susan K. Hempstead is principal, account services, at Stratagem Healthcare Communications (San Francisco). After working with several of the West Coast’s leading healthcare agencies, she founded Stratagem Healthcare Communications with two partners in 1997. In her role as principal, account services, Hempstead provides Stratagem clients with the strategic thinking that leads to increased sales and market share. She has led launches and overseen mature product lines in medical areas that include diagnostics, devices, instrumentation, and pharmaceuticals. She was the first woman president of the Medical Marketing Association and continues to serve on its board of directors.

Bruce Lehman is cofounder, president, and CEO of Lehman Millet Inc. (Boston), a marketing communications firm dedicated exclusively to the medical device and diagnostics industry. For 20 years, Lehman’s strategic leadership has helped Lehman Millet successfully develop integrated marketing communications programs for its clients.

In addition to serving a third term as a director of the Biomedical Marketing Association, Lehman is a member of the advisory council for the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He is a founding board member of the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMedic), and is an active member of the Medical Marketing Association, and the American Association of Advertising Agencies.
