Reconstructive Implants on Track to Continue Strong Growth

Last year, the U.S. large joint reconstructive implant market for hips and knees was worth almost $6 billion, up almost 10% from 2006, according to a report by Millennium Research Group (Toronto). But that’s not where the good news ends; the report expects strong growth to continue through at least 2012.

The progress stems from the growth in the number of procedures performed and an increase in average selling prices of implants, the report states.

“It seems like these days, the focus is on developing products that are catered not only towards your typical aging population, but also target younger and more active patients,” says Andrea Cheng, senior analyst in the orthopedics division at Millennium Research.
