Pregis Introduces Series of Environmental Initiatives

The Astro-Bubble green packaging material from Pregis contains 30–40% recycled content.

Protective packaging specialist Pregis Corp. (Deerfield, Illinois, USA; www.pregis.com) has launched a range of initiatives to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable manufacturing. Detailed on the company’s website at www.pregis.com/sustain, the environmental initiatives include manufacturing goals such as reclaiming up to 99% of manufacturing scrap and reintroducing it into the manufacturing process, density reduction programmes across product lines, minimising application-specific waste and investing in pollution abatement equipment. In addition, the company has reconfigured its shipping routes to make them more efficient.

Pregis also has introduced air-cushioning bubble packaging that contains between 30 and 40% recycled content, depending on post- and preconsumer waste material supply availability. The material has been engineered to incorporate high levels of post-consumer recycled content without losing product integrity. The air-cushioning bubble is made from up to 20% post-consumer recycled content and up to 20% industrial scrap. Additionally, an organic green dye is used to create a transparent visual cue that the product is environmentally friendly.

Suited as a surface cover and void-fill for a range of medical packaging applications, the new air-cushioning bubble product line is available
in both coex and monolayer varieties.
