Clear, high-moisture-barrier lidstock can seal to trays, cups and other containers made from a range of plastic materials without a foil layer. The two-ply 2.5-mil lamination is made from PVDC-coated polyester and a peelable sealant layer. Medical devices are among the targeted applications for Flexi-Free 6985 developed by Ampac Flexibles (Melbourn, Royston, UK; www.ampaconline.com).
Plastic tray and cup types include PS, high-impact PS, HDPE, PP, amorphous polyethylene terephthalate, PETG, PVC, PC and Barex. The product allows packagers and contract fillers to reduce inventory because they no longer need to purchase lidstock specific to a plastic material. Other advantages of Flexi-Free 6985 include its transparency, which offers
obvious marketing advantages, and a clean, residue-free peel.
For universal sealing applications that do not require high moisture barrier properties, the company has introduced companion product Flexi-Free 6734, which does not have a PVDC coating.
