There's No Business Like (Trade) Show
Business
Here at MPMN's editorial offices, we're gearing up for
what Ed Sullivan would have called "a really big shew."
Considered to be the largest design and manufacturing event on the
West Coast, Medical
Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West 2005. is
sponsored by our sister publication, MD&DI, and the Canon
Communications LLC family of medical design and manufacturing
publications.
The trade show takes place next Monday through Wednesday at
the Anaheim Convention Center. In addition to MD&M West's
suppliers from more than 40 product and service categories, there
are four additional shows for you to check out. Industries covered
include plastics processing, electronics, and packaging. And get
this: just one badge admits you to all five shows for all three
days. That's a better deal than you can get at local theme
parks.
Looking for industry
insights and networking opportunities? Consider attending the
MD&M West Conference. The conference will be held at the
convention center and includes admission to the exposition halls and
a nifty tote bag. You can review the conference schedule and
register at the MD&M
West Web site.
MD&M West can be the proverbial candy store for medical
device engineers and designers, but some might feel overwhelmed by
the sheer volume of products and services presented. So, to help our
readers get the most from the show, we've compiled a Top 10 list of
MD&M tips.
10 Tips, Tricks, and Hints for the Complete
MD&M West Experience
- Wear
comfortable shoes. Repeat: WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES.
- Review the
show directory. It includes floor plans and exhibitor listings for
all five shows, as well as exhibitor addresses, phone numbers, and
URLs.
- Get in
shape while standing in line. Last year's directory weighed over
one pound, and the 2005 version promises to be just as hefty. So
while you're queued up, take an extra copy and do 50 bicep curls
on each arm. Keep this up and by show's end, you may be as buff as
California's Govinator.
- Look for
the banners signifying the five special feature pavilions within
MD&M West: PrecisionTec, CAD/CAM, MEDPAK, Automation
Technology, and Enterprise Technology.
- If you
dropped your show directory somewhere, don't sweat it. Computer
terminals around the show allow you to search by exhibitor name or
product. While you're at it, check your e-mail.
- Last-minute
registrations can be done on-line by visiting the MD&M
West Web site. Follow the instructions for registering,
print out the confirmation with bar code, and take it with you to
the show to receive your badge.
- Come eat,
drink, and be merry at the welcome reception. From 5:00 to 6:30
p.m. on Monday, January 10, there will be complimentary appetizers
and drinks for MD&M West exhibitors and attendees in the
Convention Center Ballroom.
- If you have
any show-related questions or concerns while you're at MD&M
West, show management staff are easily identified by their gold
badges.
- No, the
blonde woman who is roaming the exhibit hall isn't really Joan
Rivers, so she won't stop to ask you what designer's clothes you
are wearing.
- Stop by the
Canon publications booth to say hello to your favorite editors.
We're friendly folks and always like to hear what our readers have
to say. And if you'd like us to autograph the latest issue of
MPMN, just ask.
We'll see you there!
