Training Labs Provide Hands-On Instruction on Pumps, Valves, and Seals

A supplier of fluid motion and control products and services has opened several training laboratories. Flowserve Corp. (Dallas; www.flowserve.com) has launched its Learning Resource Center (LRC) instructional labs. The labs offer hands-on technical facilities for pump, valve, and seal system optimization and maintenance training. Training is conducted in a simulated plant environment. The labs feature complete pumping systems and equipment from Flowserve and other manufacturers.

Up to 50% of training time is spent working with the pump, valve, and seal systems used by plant professionals. The courses are specifically designed to increase the participants’ skill levels in equipment selection, installation, repair, failure analysis, and troubleshooting. The goal is to have LRC trainees return to work with practical knowledge to help them improve plant performance and safety, increase machine availability, and decrease maintenance costs.

Three of the center’s training labs enable participants to analyze equipment failures and determine their causes. The labs allow attendees to learn firsthand how to prevent pump, seal, and control valve failure. Four 900-sq-ft power labs feature 26 operational pumping systems. Many of the systems are built with transparent piping and housings, giving trainees a real-time view of fluid motion and typical pumping system failures.
