W.C. Heraeus Acquires Metalor Medical Division in Switzerland

W.C. Heraeus GmbH (Hanau, Germany; www.wc-heraeus.com)
has recently acquired the Medical Division of Metalor Technologies International S.A., which is based in Cossonay, Switzerland. The division has been integrated into the newly created Medical Components Division of W.C.
Heraeus.
Parallel to this acquisition, W.C. Heraeus has set up a new company in Cossonay, Heraeus Materials S.A. This company will take over all operating assets and the 70 employees of Metalor Medical Division.
The Metalor Medical Division produces components based on wires and fine tubes from specialty stainless steels, unique alloys, and precious metals. Its product range includes electrodes and conducting wires for pacemakers, guide wires for surgical cardiology, and materials used in stent delivery systems.
The Medical Components Division of W.C. Heraeus produces and distributes a wide range of primarily implantable metal-based products for the medical industry. Products include electrodes, microprecision parts, and various semifinished products.
Jürgen Wachter and Nicolas Guggenheim will head the Medical Components Division of W.C. Hereaus. “We are enthusiastic about the acquisition,” says Wachter. He adds, “both divisions are complementary in their product range, which will allow us to offer an extensive package of products and services to the medical industry. Customers will have access to a whole range of technologies and integrated products from one single global supplier.”
