SKF Group (Götheborg, Sweden) delivered to Siemens Medical Systems a complete table with CAN connectivity for patient positioning in medical care applications. The table is incorporated into a fixed medical system for use in examination and operating theaters. Specifically designed for the treatment of kidney stone and urology disorders, these designs simplify examinations and operations for patients and doctors.

SKF managed the production of the tables, including support to get the necessary medical approvals from the relevant authorities. The tables include SKF actuation products and systems as well as outsourced items such as the mattress, bed frame, wheels, electronic interfaces and controller, etc. The company’s specific knowledge of industrial design in medical systems as well as knowledge of carbon fiber materials were key factors in managing this project from design to delivery. The table provides a range of possibilities for doctors to move a patient for examination or operation. There is horizontal and longitudinal movement, head- and foot-end up and down movement, some degree of sideways inclination, and rotation. The table can be hand-operated or foot-operated and has a fully integrated controller with CAN connectivity to the system’s other controls for imaging and kidney stone dissolution.
