Packaging and process validation

Medical Engineering Technologies provides physical testing for package integrity and product and package stability studies. The company is also equipped to provide a variety of pack strength and integrity tests. Validation for sterile barriers and packaging systems according to ISO 11607:1 is also available. Test programmes include accelerated ageing, studies of pack integrity and seal strength, environmental conditioning and shipping simulation. Packaging solutions

VP offers packaging fabricated from medical grade paper, Tyvek, film laminates, paper and aluminium laminates as well as blister covers and lidding. Under the brand name Stericlin, it offers four-side-seal and form-fill-seal packaging systems using materials that it says are optimised for the product, the type of machine and the opening characteristics. Company acquisition

Oliver Medical, a supplier of die cut lid, roll, stock and pouch products, has acquired Tolas Healthcare Packaging, a manufacturer of sterile grade packaging, including peelable or tear open pouches and heat seal coated lidding. The company says the acquisition expands its coating and manufacturing operations and the combination of hot melt and water based adhesive technologies will provide a wide range of solutions from a single supplier.

Compact thermoforming machine

Multivac has introduced an entry level automatic thermoforming system that occupies less than 3 m2 of floor space. R105 is designed for the manufacture of packages with smaller dimensions and in smaller batch sizes. Pouching machine

KOCH Packaging Systems has redesigned its form–fill–seal machine for large deep draw blister packages. The KBS-KF has a standard form–seal area of 300 x 500 mm, and is reportedly capable of producing up to 600 blisters/min using PVC or PET forming materials and Tyvek, paper, film, foil and other lid stock materials. Design improvements include an intuitive operator interface capable of providing planned maintenance requirements in real time; reduced changeover time due to the servo controlled stations, quick change tools and a unique gripper chain redesign; and a new horizontal chain design that includes a pneumatically clamped material infeed section for fast setup and ensures edge trim is removed. The improved design also allows for rapid acceleration/deceleration equating to increased cycle times and higher output. Custom product infeed systems and end of line collating/cartoning systems are also available.

Four-edge bag sealing module

Medicon, a subsidiary of Optima, manufactures customer-specific manufacturing and packaging lines based on existing or purpose-specific newly developed function modules. The company has developed a four-edge bag sealing module that can process materials such as foils, composite materials, medical papers and Tyvek. In ongoing operation, the validatable plate sealing unit reaches a lane speed of up to 60 m/min. Typical applications are packaging wound dressings, transdermal plasters, diagnostic strips and other flat products. The module can be installed and used as part of a complex manufacturing machine (converter) or in standalone operation.

Pouching machine

About Packaging offers a machine designed to open–fill–seal large premade Tyvek, strip header bags, foils and barrier pouches for the packaging of bulky medical devices and trays.
