Self-sealing IV catheter vents

Seals

Precision Polymer Engineering designs and manufactures high performance sealing solutions. Antimicrobial stopcocks

Elcam Medical has added two swabbable, minimal dead space, antimicrobial stopcocks to its product range. DoubleSafe and TripleSafe feature silver-ion based antimicrobial technology that, according to the company, has been proven through in vitro tests to be effective against the most prevalent sources of catheter related blood stream infections. Both stopcocks feature a closed design to prevent contaminants’ penetration into the fluid path, thereby reducing the risk of bloodstream infections.

Fluid management components

Value Plastics specialises in moulding precision fluid management components. Needle-free transfer set

Technoflex has launched a luer-based needle-free transfer set for drug reconstitution in flexible bags. Technoflex TTS101 is a completely closed system that prevents potential drug contamination problems and eliminates staff needle stick injuries during product preparation. A luer lock connection to the bag keeps the device closed and the drug vial cannot be removed once locked.

Transparent luers and connectors

Eldon James offers a range of transparent luers and connectors that have a polyolefin base and do not contain Bisphenol A. According to the company, CrystalVu components will not stress crack like acrylic or polycarbonate and can be autoclaved and sterilised by ethylene oxide and gamma. Features of the FDA and USP VI compliant components include low water absorption (<1%), high gas permeability (10x higher than polyethylene) and a higher level of chemical resistance than polycarbonate and acrylic. Tuohy borst adpters

Qosina has introduced three Tuohy borst adapters that comprise a PVC body with a Triax cap. Parts 80407, 80408 and 80409 have a chemical resistant silicone gasket that prevents backflow of fluids and secures the position of a guidewire or instrument when closed. Gaskets range from 4 to 6 French. A range of other components including HDPE dispensing tubing, luers and guidewire accessories are also available from the company.

Connector with port

Morton Medical manufactures disposable medical products such as silicone and PVC tubes, cardiovascular tubing sets, extension lines, three-way stopcocks, IV regulators and connectors. Its MN 906 Kapkon connector with port is transparent for easy observation of secretion and features a conical connector that reportedly provides strong and safe connection. Catheter-based products

Disposable connector

Fischer Connectors has introduced a disposable connector that is matable with metal recepticals. The Limited Use Connector’s customisable plastic interface shell is designed to accept standard contact block configurations. Hybrid connector configurations are also available to facilitate the integration of fluid and fibreoptics. Electrical contacts can be mixed with fluid/gas contacts or polymer optical fibre that is suitable for transmitting light. Three colour options prevent mismating of critical connections. The company has recently moved its headquarters and primary production centre to new facilities in Saint Prex, Switzerland, in response to increasing demand for its products.

Modular rectangular connectors

ODU has added a new model to its series of ODU MAC LC modular rectangular connectors for transmitting signals, power and high frequencies. The Power Module has three different contact positions, nominal voltage up to 2500 V, and 32 A nominal current. It has a a contact diameter of 3.5 mm, measures 9.6 mm and has various crimp connections from 1.5 to 6 mm2. The module provides broad coverage for the power supply to single phase and polyphase consumers with increased power consumption, such as motors, heater and light sources.
