How to Submit a Press Release to MD&DI and MPMN

Press releases can cover a new product, service, or literature available from industry suppliers. Releases should be at least 100 words in length, have a release date, and include a high-quality photograph. The release should focus on applications specific to the medical product manufacturing industry.

•  Press releases should include a contact name, telephone and e-mail information, plus the name of the company, its location, its telephone number, and its URL.

•  Whenever possible, press releases should be accompanied by a photograph. Electronic (JPEG or TIFF) images should measure 266 dpi or greater at 2 X 3 inches.

•  Please note: The editors cannot guarantee publication of a press release.

How to Write a Good Press Release

•  Include the most important information about the product or service in the first paragraph. Why is it important to the readers of MD&DI and MPMN? What makes it stand out?

•  The description should clearly explain how medical OEMs can apply the product to their operations. Indicate what type of application might use the product.

•  It is better to include too much than too little. Include all key features such as size, weight, dimensions, operating characteristics, and options. For services, be specific about your capabilities, facilities, and equipment. Include as many facts and figures as possible. Editors are good at “editing out” but they can't fabricate facts out of thin air. You can't send too much.

•  The information given in the press release should include specific measurements and details. Promotional language, e.g., “This revolutionary new component is changing the face of manufacturing,” will be edited out, as well as descriptions such as “revolutionary,” “best,” “premier,” and “unique.”

•  Make sure you proof and polish your copy. Write in complete sentences and follow rules of good grammar.

•  Include high-quality images or photos. Good composition and lighting are important. Saving electronic files at the proper resolution (300 dpi or better at least 3 x 3 in.) is key.
