EDITORIAL ADVISORY BOARD
Michael Wiklund is founder and president of Wiklund Research & Design Inc. (Concord, MA), a consulting firm offering user interface research, design, prototyping, and usability testing services. He has made substantial contributions to sections of AAMI HE75-200X addressing software user interface design, workstation design, and mobility. Before founding his own firm, Mr. Wiklund was a vice president with American Institutes for Research (Concord, MA), a human factors consulting firm. He has devoted his career to making a variety of devices more user-friendly, including heart monitors, dialysis machines, defibrillators, blood glucose meters, and wheelchairs. He is author of Medical Device and Equipment Design—Usability Engineering and Ergonomics, which provides practical advice on the design of usable medical devices. For the more than a decade, Mr. Wiklund has been a contributing editor with MD&DI, and has served on its Editorial Advisory Board since 2006 and has been a long-time contributing editor. He has also served repeatedly as a juror for the Medical Design Excellence Awards and has also served as a juror for International Design magazine’s awards program. He has chaired the Medical Section of the Industrial Designers Society of America. He is a voting member of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation’s Human Factors Engineering Committee, which published ANSI/AAMI HE74:2001—Human Factors Design Process for Medical Devices.
