Stretch Blow Molding
Balloon catheters are used for POBA and stent delivery. The balloons on these catheters must be thin-walled and tear resistant, and they must have high burst pressures, good fatigue characteristics, and low compliance. These balloons are created through a process called stretch blow molding, in which polymer-based tubing is stretched under internal pressure and elevated temperature to promote expansion into a mold.
