The Need for Improved User Interfaces

The authors’ limited survey of 20 insulin pump users reveals a demand for medical devices—insulin pumps, in particular—with improved user interfaces. The challenge for manufacturers is to respond to such demands in practical ways, noting that users may simultaneously ask for a device with a large display that also fits in a shirt pocket.
The key is to distill addressable needs from arguably impractical demands, noting that it is not the customers’ job to be practical, but rather to share their dreams of ideal devices.
