Medical device manufacturers have relied on animated videos for many years to provide operational instruction to clinicians. For example, they are commonly used to illustrate how to perform minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as ablating heart tissue using a catheter inserted into the femoral artery.
Such videos typically show the proper way to operate a medical device, often staying on the “happy path” rather than addressing problems that might arise. Such animations are typically three-dimensional and are very effective. However, they also tend to be sales oriented, heavily promoting a device’s merits, and they can be expensive to produce.
Companies that make such videos in-house or contract for them are well positioned to apply their experience to producing simpler, shorter, and two-dimensional videos at reasonable cost that can help device users avoid or overcome operational difficulties.
