UTI Acquires Venusa Ltd.Maureen Kingsley
UTI Corp. (Collegeville, PA) has announced its acquisition of Venusa Ltd. (El Paso, TX). The latter is a medical device manufacturer specializing in proprietary OEM products and private-label fluid disposables. Drew Freed, chairman and CEO of UTI Corp., told MD&DI that acquiring Venusa allows his company to expand its capabilities as a “full-service OEM medical device company, which includes taking component pieces and assembling, sterilizing, packaging, and labeling them.”
Venusa has assembly facilities in the United States and Mexico, which will benefit UTI as well. Freed pointed out, however, that “there were no geographical reasons for the acquisition.” This was a capabilities-driven move “so we can serve our customers more efficiently,” he said.
Venusa currently serves a wide range of product markets, including parenteral and enteral therapy devices, endoscopy catheters, and minimally invasive therapeutic devices. It counts injection molding and assembly technologies among its services.
When asked about how the acquisition will affect UTI’s customers and clients, Freed said his customers are interested in dealing with “fewer and fewer suppliers” and that they would like those suppliers to have more capabilities. “The OEMs want to concentrate on their core competencies, such as having access to the clinician network and sales and marketing,” Freed added.
