Nationwide Workplace AED Program to Be Developed

Cardiac Science Inc. (Irvine, CA), which develops public access automated external defibrillators (AEDs), has formed a strategic alliance with privately held Complient Corp. (Cleveland), an outsource provider of workplace AED programs. Under the agreement, Cardiac Science and Complient will co-market their respective product and service lines to corporate, municipal, state, and federal government customers. Their goal is to offer "a nationally consistent, comprehensive workplace defibrillation program aimed at protecting employees and visitors from sudden cardiac arrest." Frost & Sullivan (Mountain View, CA) has projected that the AED market is likely to range from $140 million in 2000 to $650 million in 2006. Recently, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a Technical Information Bulletin on the potential benefits of workplace AED programs. OSHA will distribute the information to more than 125 trade, professional, and union organizations.
