TRENDS & PERSPECTIVES
In Brief
DxS Ltd. (Manchester, UK), a personalized-medicine company and provider of companion diagnostics, has granted DuPont Qualicon (Wilmington, DE) a license to use its Scorpions diagnostic platform to develop tests for use by the food industry. The deal will allow DuPont Qualicon to use the technology to develop rapid multiplex assays for detecting microorganisms that affect food safety and quality.
Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT; Coralville, IA;), a company specializing in oligonucleotide synthesis, has purchased the oligo business of VH Bio Ltd. (Gateshead, UK). IDT will supply VH Bio’s customers from IDT’s facility in Leuven, Belgium, while building on VH Bio’s local customer service in the UK. Current VH Bio oligo customers will have access to a much broader range of products, with 100% QC-checked sequences and next-day delivery. VH Bio will continue to distribute its full range of other products for immunologists and molecular biologists.
Magnisense (Paris), a developer of next-generation bioassays for human and animal diagnostics, food safety, and environmental protection, launched a new discovery platform for the construction and characterization of next-generation nanomagnetic materials. This work, in collaboration with the Paris 13 University and the Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, identifies and develops new families of magnetic beads for Magnisense MIAplex detection. These unique beads are a key element of the development of the MIAplex multiparametric diagnostic technology. In addition, the discovery of these unique beads is expected to further increase the sensitivity of MIAtek monoparametric detection and makes quantitative in vivo monitoring a likely possibility.
SciGene (Sunnyvale, CA) has entered into an agreement whereby Invitrogen (Carlsbad, CA), a division of Life Technologies, will supply SciGene reagents used in its BioPrime Total Genomic Labeling system. SciGene will incorporate the reagents into a kit for use on the ArrayPrep Target Preparation system, a new instrument developed by SciGene that automates labeling, purification, and loading of DNA samples onto microarrays for performing aCGH tests.
