In Brief
- The parent company of VWR International Inc. (West Chester, PA) entered into a definitive agreement that will result in VWR being acquired by Madison Dearborn Partners (Chicago). The transaction is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2007.
- GE Healthcare (Chalfont St. Giles, UK) completed a license agreement with NorDiag ASA(Bergen, Norway) granting NorDiag ASA access to GE patents for the biomagnetic isolation of nucleic acids. The license grants NorDiag ASA certain rights with respect to the isolation and purification of nucleic acids using GE’s proprietary magnetic separation technology.
- Affymetrix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) announced the launch of its Targeted Genotyping Bovine 25K SNP Service. This service includes a new assay panel designed to help agricultural researchers improve the health of cattle and the nutritional value of beef and dairy products.
- Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Inc. (Raritan, NJ) initiated a voluntary nationwide recall of two lots of a diagnostic test used to diagnose injury to heart muscle or heart attack. The recall was due to shifts in test results that could contribute to a missed diagnosis of myocardial infarction.
- Millipore Corp. (Billerica, MA) will market the Mycoplasma Tissue Culture Non-Isotopic Test by Gen-Probe Inc. (San Diego) to its biopharmaceutical customers. This agreement expands on their collaboration to create a new generation of nucleic acid tests for the biopharmaceutical market.
- Acacia Research Corp.(Newport Beach, CA) will sell $5 million worth of its Acacia Research-CombiMatrix common stock and warrants in a registered direct offering. Under the terms of the transaction, 6.8 million units will be sold for 73.8 cents per unit to a select group of investors.
