MEDICAL DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARDS

MDEA competition overview

The Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) competition is the premier awards program for the medical technology community, recognizing groundbreaking products that are changing the face of healthcare. As such, it is also a tribute to the many people behind the scenes—the engineers, scientists, designers, and clinicians—who are responsible for these innovations. Awards are offered in 10 different categories, one of which is in vitro diagnostics.

The program is open worldwide to companies and individuals involved in the design, engineering, manufacture, or distribution of finished medical devices or medical packaging. Although entries are most often submitted by manufacturers, firms that provide materials, components, or other services may submit an entry on behalf of a product manufacturer.

For the 2008 MDEA competition, all entered products must be commercially available—able to be ordered or purchased—by December 31, 2007. Such availability is not limited to products approved for marketing in the United States. Because the competition is open to the medical device industry worldwide, products commercially available in any country are eligible.

The standard deadline for submissions to the 2008 MDEA competition is December 17, 2007. The full program schedule and updated rules will be announced in July and will be accessible via the awards Web site at www.mdeawards.com.
